These terms cover the Typefall app and this website. By using either one you accept them. If you do not, please stop using the app and delete it.
The short version: the game is free to download. Playing a run costs a life, and lives come back on their own. You can buy hints, a fourth life, or Infinite Lives, and Apple takes the payment. Refunds are Apple's to give. The game is sold as it is, with no promise that it never breaks.
Typefall is made and published by Kreis Labs ("we", "us", "the developer"). These terms are an agreement between you and us. Apple is not a party to them.
Apple distributes the app and takes every payment. Apple's own Media Services Terms and Conditions apply to you as well, and where a term of Apple's conflicts with a term of ours, Apple's wins.
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Typefall on Apple devices that you own or control, under the rules of the App Store. That licence is what you buy. You do not buy the software itself.
You may not:
The game is free to download and free to play. Starting a run costs one life. You hold three lives, and one comes back every two hours. Quitting part way through a run does not give the life back.
Hints are a separate budget. They are bought, or earned by passing a word milestone. They are never refilled on a clock.
These rules are part of the game's design and we may change them in a future version, in either direction. A change of that kind applies from the version that carries it. It does not reach back into anything you already bought.
Typefall sells three things. None of them is a subscription, and each one is a single payment:
Apple takes the payment and holds the record of it. We use RevenueCat to check receipts and to restore purchases on your other devices. What you own follows your Apple Account, so signing in on a new device and choosing Restore brings it back.
Hints you have spent are gone. That is what a consumable is.
Apple handles every refund for an App Store purchase, and the decision is Apple's. Ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue a refund ourselves, because we never receive the payment.
Write to us anyway if something went wrong. We would rather fix the problem than have you ask Apple about it.
Game Center and iCloud are Apple services, and using them is optional. Apple's terms cover them, not ours.
Keep your Game Center standing honest. If we find that a score was reached by changing the app, by editing what it stores, or by any other means the game does not offer, we may report it to Apple and ask for it to be removed from the leaderboard.
Typefall carries an English word list built from ENABLE2K, which is in the public domain, with a blocklist applied. Word-of-the-day meanings come from WordNet, used under Princeton University's licence. The licence notice ships inside the app.
A word list is never a judgement. A word being in the game does not mean we endorse it, and a word being absent does not mean we think it is not a word. Write to us if you find one that should not be there.
Typefall is a game. It is provided as it is and as it is available. We do not promise that it runs without a fault, that it never loses data, or that it stays available in your country.
Where the law lets us limit our liability, we limit it to the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, or fraud, because no term can.
Some countries give consumers rights that a contract cannot take away. Those rights stand, and nothing above is meant to reduce them.
The pages on https://typefall.kreislabs.com are ours. The press kit is the exception: everything in it is free to use in coverage of the game, in print or online, without asking us first. The full terms are on the press page.
You end it by deleting the app. We may end it if you break these terms. Purchases you have already made are not taken back by either event, and Apple's refund rules still apply.
If these terms change, the updated version is posted on this page with a new date at the top. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the change. If you do not accept it, delete the app.
These terms are governed by the law of Germany, and the courts of Germany have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, you keep the right to bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live, under the law of that country.
